What to do on a getaway in Harrington Beach

If you’re planning a weekend getaway to Harrington Beach and you wonder what to do in this small coastal town, then you came to the right place 🙂

Harrington Beach is located 4 hours north of Sydney. It’s a quiet and peaceful coastal town, perfect to unwind and explore.

Here’s what to do in Harrington Beach.

First things first: breakky!

Pantry Cafe
The Pantry Cafe in Harrington Beach

Start your day with breakfast at The Corner Pantry Cafe. As far as I know this is the only cafe in Harrington, and it’s a cute little spot for breakky. I was pleasantly surprised how delicious the coffee and food were. I can highly recommend the avo on toast, and my boyfriend’s favorite was the breakfast burger.

Crowdy Head Light

What about this cute lil’ lighthouse? 🙂

After your tummy is filled with the delicious food from The Corner Pantry Cafe, it is time to start exploring! Make a first stop at Crowdy Head Light, a small but beautiful lighthouse dating all the way back to 1878.

Crowdy Bay National Park

Then head to Crowdy Bay National Park. Some roads in this National Park are dirt roads, making the experience even more fun. Go on one of the hikes or make your way down to the beach. Crowdy Bay National Park is also a great spot for bird watching and wildlife encounters. We spotted a wild echidna! 🙂

Did someone say 4wd beach driving?

Driving on the beach

Oh yes, you read that right! At Dunbogan Beach (a.o.) you’re allowed to take your 4×4 on to the beach. Please do check beforehand if you need any permits, and make sure you don’t get stuck in the soft sand 😉

Camden Haven Inlet

Isn’t this just a picture perfect lake?

Australia’s diversity never fails to surprise me, and you can imagine my “ohhhs” and “ahhhs” when I saw this beautiful lake for the first time. It’s a popular spot under local fisherman, and just a sight for sore eyes for nature lovers.

Camden Haven Forest & Lookout

Even though it’s rainy, it’s still so pretty!

Hopefully you’ll have a bit more luck with the weather than we did, because rain was bucketing down when we visited. But no matter the weather, we drove up to Camden Haven Forest to take in the spectacular views from the lookout.

If you’re planning to visit this lookout on a sunny day then please send me a picture, as I’d love to know what it looks like when the sun’s out! 🙂

Go for a sunset surf

A beautiful sunset surf!

Harrington Beach and its surroundings are not a typical surf destination, but there are definitely a few waves to catch around here! I actually went for my first ever surf at Crowdy Head and the waves were great for a beginner like me!

Stay at Discovery Parks

We stayed at Discovery Parks Harrington Beach, which offers direct beach access and is very conveniently located. You can rent a campsite or stay at one of their cabins. We did the latter. The cabins are spacious and cozy, and ours even came with an outdoor bbq. Yes!!

Discovery Parks are located all around Australia, and are great for all ages. Kids will LOVE it at Discovery Parks and can play for hours in the waterpark, pool or playground. And adults will love it too, as these parks provide you with everything you need for a relaxing holiday.

Discovery Parks currently have a few great deals on – you can check them out here.

Even though we didn’t have the weather gods on our side, I had an absolutely fantastic time in Harrington Beach. There’s plenty to see and do, and I loved unwinding and snuggling up in our Discovery Parks cabin.
