Thailand – Dive into Koh Tao

Koh Tao, a smaller island located just northwest above Koh Phangan, thanks its name to its turtle-like shape. Thus the Thai named it ‘Turtle Island’. Nowadays Koh Tao is more famous for its diving and snorkeling than for its turtles, and we got to spend four nights on this lovely tropical Koh.

Sairee Beach
The main beach of Koh Tao is Sairee Beach, and our accommodation was located right at the beginning of Sairee. We had a lovely bungalow overlooking the Gulf of Thailand. During daytime you can stroll over Sairee Beach, swim in its crystal blue/green waters, snorkel around to spot some fishies, enjoy some delicious food or just lay on the beach. At night time you can enjoy Thai and western meals while looking at the water. And for the party animals amongst us you can enjoy dancing bare feet at the beach with a bucket in your hand at Lotus Beach Bar.

Aaaahh! Pretty fishies!
If you’re not really into diving or if you just don’t have the time, you should really go on a snorkeling trip when you’re at Koh Tao. We went on a day trip and loved it. At first I struggled a little with the waves and according to img_7562my friends I looked gray/yellowish, but after one of the staff gave me two sick pills I felt better so I could enjoy the wonders of the underwater world as well. The trip took us to four different snorkeling spots. At the first there wasn’t much to see, but the other spots were amazing. When you delve into the water you are greeted by all kinds of lovely fishies, zebra colored, neon colored, spotted, you think of it and you see them swimming around. Wow!

The Queen’s Cabaret
Famous on Koh Tao is the Queen’s Cabaret. If you like to see ladyboys perform in all their glory then this is the place for you. Every night around 10pm they show what they’ve got, dancing and playbacking to songs from Madonna, Moulin Rouge and the Weather Girls. Afterwards you can take a picture with them, but of course not without rewarding them by putting some baht in their silicon-filled-bra’s 😉

Right now we’re at Koh Phi Phi, a crazy but extremely beautiful island. I’ll update you on Phi Phi in a few days 🙂
