Thailand – Being Three Typical Tourists, Take Two

While waiting at the airport for our flight to Phnom Penh I thought I should update you on the whole palace-adventure and our second day in Bangkok. Did we get in…?

The Grand Palace
Yes, we got in! Covered up and together with a million other tourists we visited the Grand Palace. And grand it is. When you visit the Grand Palace you will not only see the huge building the King gets to call his home, but also the most beautiful temples. It’s usually not all gold that glitters, but in this case it was. One temple is even bigger and more impressive than the other, and everywhere you look you are blinded by the reflection of the sun shining on the temples.

Bangkok Boat Tour
We wanted to go to Wat Arun a temple at Chao Praya river. When we asked a Tuk Tuk driver to take us there, he told us “he knew a very good boat tour”. Of course we know about all the scams, but since we felt like going on a boat and the palace wasn’t open until 2 pm we decided to hop on and sail away. We were promised to visit a floating market, but found out this market only consisted of one boat with one lovely lady who was trying to sell us some souvenirs. Making jokes about how awesome the floating market was, we sailed on. The boat eventually dropped us off at our next stop, Wat Arun.

Wat Arun – The Temple of Dawn
Wat Arun was more beautiful than ever before. My friends burnt a candle for their loved ones in need, and while wandering from temple to temple we came across a monk who was giving his blessings to everyone. We decided to kneel down in front of him as well. First he blessed us with holy water, and after that we received a little rope bracelet which will bring us ‘good luck good luck good luck’. With Buddha having our backs we explored the rest of beautiful Wat Arun.

Our flight is leaving in half an hour so it’s time for us start boarding. ‘See you’ next time, from Cambodia! =]
