Climbing Australia’s highest building at night

After three months of living in Brisbane it was about time I finally made my way down to the Gold Coast. One of my fellow Instagrammers, the beautiful Natalia, invited me to come along to an event at SkyPoint, atop Australia’s highest tower. I didn’t have to think twice, hopped on the bus and off to the Gold Coast I went!

High, you said?
Very high. 270m to be exact! SkyPoint Climb is Australia’s highest external building climb and provides you with insanely beautiful 360 degrees views over Surfers Paradise and it’s surroundings. SkyPoint has been offering day climbs for a while, but decided to add a little extra thrill to the experience: climbing at night!

Safety first!
Before actually going on the climb there are a lot of safety measures to be taken first. First of all, phones and cameras are not allowed up at the climb because you could potentially drop them. Not only would that mean saying goodbye to your beloved mobile device, it could also potentially hurt someone. Rings, necklaces, watches, bracelets – they all have to come off. We also had to take a breathalyser test, something I had actually never done before (yes, I don’t have a drivers license). We then got to put on our beautiful SkyPoint onesies and got all set up in the gear that connects us to a rail at all times.

All those lights!
After a quick elevator ride up (arghhhh, ears popping!) the moment was finally there: let’s climb to that top! One by one we were getting up the steep stairs and discovered the breathtaking views. All those lights! Once at the top the guides took some pictures of us, and we were able to enjoy the stunning views ourselves. I especially enjoyed watching the beach from that high up. The beach is beautifully lit up by all the lights of the city, and the waves look like they’re moving in slow motion. Magical!

The views of all these high rises and their twinkling lights really reminded me of being on New York City’s Top of the Rock whilst gazing at all it’s beauty. Only is this experience even more awesome cause you’re literally standing on the edge of the building with the world at your feet. Next week I’ll be visiting Surfers Paradise again, and I’m very tempted to also go on the day climb as this night climb was such a fantastic experience! I’ll keep you posted 😉

Disclaimer: SkyPoint Australia did not ask me to write this post, nor did they pay me for it. They invited me to join them on the night climb, and I loved it so much I wanted to put my experience in writing.
