Cambodia – Angkor Wats beauty will never fade

When I went to Cambodia a year ago I visited its great pride Angkor Wat. But being in Siem Reap once again, I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to admire this 7th Wonder of the World for a second time. Despite it only being a year later some things clearly changed, while others stayed the same. In this blog I’ll tell you all about it 🙂

Aaargghhhh, that alarm at 4:15am again!
So one of the things that obviously didn’t change was the time the sun would rise 😉 Our alarms went off at 4:15am again, the guesthouse prepared some toast ‘n jam for us and the Tuk Tuk driver was waiting for us at 5am. And before we knew it, we were sitting in front of Angkor Wats ancient ruins to see the sun appear behind it. Tip: if you walk all the way to the left or all the way to the right whilst at the sunrise-spot you’ll have a better view of the sunrise without the crowds. We had barely anyone sitting in front of us! 🙂

Things that changed
1. Entree fees – From the first of February 2017 the entree fees for Angkor Wat have gone up drastically. Where before a one-day-pass cost you USD 20, today it will cost you USD37. Yup, that’s an increase of almost 100%… Entree pass Angkor Wat
2. The Ticket counter – The former ticket counters, which were outside in the open air and had no other facilities attached to them, made place for a big building with even more ticket counters. Despite the fact that it shows that places like Angkor Wat are getting more touristy by the minute, this is also good news for the more ‘convience-craving’ tourists amongst us. For example there are plenty of toilets, supermarkets, and even a coffee bar where you can get a great cup of strong coffee to wake you up if you’re going to watch the sunrise.

Things that didn’t change
The title of my blog already kind of gives it away… The beauty of this immensely impressive and impressively immense Temple Complex will never ever change, and will always leave you breathless. I hope you’ll enjoy viewing the following photos as much as I enjoyed taking them 🙂

After wandering through Angkor Wat it was time to leave Siem Reap and travel to Battambang. More about this place in my next blog!
