Amsterdam Oud-West – the best coffee & where to eat

Eef Food Amsterdam Oud West

Looking for the best spots to have a coffee, or would you like to know where to eat in Amsterdam Oud-west? Look no further, my friend.

I lived in Amsterdam Oud-west for over 5 years and know this area like the back of my hand. In this guide I’ll tell you where to find the best coffee, the most delicious lunch, (typically Dutch) drinks and snacks and the best food.

Coffee

Lot Sixty One Coffee Roasters
Kinkerstraat 112
According to one of my coffee-connaiseur friends Lot Sixty One might very well be the best coffee in Amsterdam Oud-West, if not in Amsterdam.

Trakteren Koffie
Jan Pieter Heijstraat 119 A
I lived around the corner from Trakteren, so this was one of my go-to spots for a cup of coffee. The founders participate in coffee-competitions and often bring home first prize. And you can definitely taste that: their coffee is amazing.

Coffee Roastery
Jan Pieter Heijstraat 143
Coffee Roastery is a great spot to go for a cup of coffee, to work, to read the newspaper or to catch up with friends. They also have great lunch, but more about that later… 😉

Breakfast / Lunch

Corner Bakery
Jan Pieter Heijstraat 131
The Corner Bakery is definitely of the cutest cafes in the area! The colorful decoration at makes every girl’s heart beat faster. Tip: try the Instagrammable “Freak Shake”. Bet you can’t finish it! 😉

Anne & Max
Tollenstraat 57 Y
Organic and fair trade – that’s the food (and coffee) at Anne & Max 🙂 This “living room-like” cafe is located right next to The Hallen on a car-free street, making it a very relaxed place for lunch, brunch and everything in between.

Coffee Roastery
Jan Pieter Heijstraat 143
Yup, Coffee Roastery made it twice to the list because their Parmezan Roll is to dieeeeeee for! Everytime I’m back in Oud-West I’ll go to Coffee Roastery just for this sandwich. So. GOOD!

Dinner

De Foodhallen
Hannie Dankbaarpassage 47
Fancy some Asian food? Craving a pizza? In the mood for seafood? Looking for a good burger? Or just don’t know where to eat in Amsterdam? Whatever you feel like, you can find it at de Foodhallen. Please be aware that weekends can be very busy as this place is very popular by both tourists and locals.

Golden Brown Bar
Jan Pieter Heijstraat 146
I LOVE Thai Food, and I’ve been a regular at the Golden Brown ever since I moved to Oud-West. The food is very affordable and super delicious. My favorite dish on the menu is number 16 – Ka Tiem Prik Thai. Be sure to make reservations if you’re planning to have dinner here as it is a very popular spot 🙂

Meatless District
Bilderdijkstraat 65-67
Whether you’re vegan or not – you’re going to drool over all the delicious food Meatless District serves. All food served at Meatless District is 100% plantbased and 100% delicious 😉

Drinks & Snacks

Kade West
Kinkerstaat 87
I spent many hours at the outdoor terrace of Kade West. When I still lived and worked in Amsterdam, my co-workers and I would often grab a beer and snacks here during summer.

Kade West has a spacious terrace with heaters on the side, making it a popular spot even in Spring and Fall. Definitely try their nachos, and those are the best nachos you’ll find in Amsterdam Oud-West.

De Ebeling
Overtoom 52
I just have a soft spot for cafes and bars with big outdoor terraces. De Ebeling is conveniently located on the Overtoom, close to the city center. It’s also a very popular after-work spot for many Amsterdammers.

Waterkant
Marnixstraat 246
Waterkant, which means “waterside”, is located right on one of Amsterdam’s canals, and it’s a brilliant place to go in summer. Not only can you go here for drinks, the Surinamese food they serve is also delicious. Try the roti!

Gollem’s Proeflokaal
Overtoom 160-162
If you love beer then you have to go to Gollem. They serve a great selection of national and international beers, acommpanied by some great “borrelhappen” (snack food). Yum!

I hope this gave you plenty of inspiration on where to eat in Amsterdam Oud-West. Enjoy your time in my lovely old neighborhood! 🙂
