It’s been almost two years since I’ve been in Bangkok, but today felt like coming home. And what better way to say hi to Bangkok again? Yes, the touristy way! After a long flight without much sleep, we gathered our last bits of energy and got on the road.
Bangkok’s Beautiful Buddha’s
A visit to Bangkok is not complete without visiting one or more of the many, many temples this city is the proud owner of. Next to a few smaller temples with free admission, we visited Wat Pho, famous for the gigantic reclining Buddha. Next to this big Buddha, the rest of the temples of Wat Pho are a sight for sore eyes as well, and I could wander around them all day.
The Royal Palace
We decided to pay the King a visit to see how he is doing on his modest piece of land, but unfortunately we didn’t get in. We covered up our knees, we covered up our shoulders, but the strict guard at the gate thought I was still not properly dressed. His English vocabulary only existed of the word ‘no! no!’, so what it exactly was which made me seem unfit for a visit to his Majesty still remains a mystery. Tomorrow we’ll go for a second attempt, completely covered up. To be continued…
Tuk-Tuks! Tuk-Tuks everywhere!
A visit to Bangkok is not complete without a frightening ride on one of the many Tuk-Tuks. After dusting off our haggling skills we came to an agreement and rushed towards our destination. A few lungs full of exhaust fumes later we reached our hostel, happy to still be alive 😉
Pad Thai! I have missed you!
Although I eat Pad Thai quite frequently in Amsterdam, it is nothing compared to the Pad Thai here in Thailand. We had a lunch at a cute place near the palace, and ordered our first of many, many Pad Thais. And it was just what we had hoped for: heavenly!
YES PLEASE! After a long flight and strolling around Bangkok we could definitely use a massage! I kind of forgot that Thai massages are quite hard and rough, and I’m not sure as whether to feel relaxed or a bit achy now, but the experience itself is totally worth it, and makes you realize: hooray, I’m back in Thailand!
Tomorrow we will explore Bangkok some more before (I should become a rapper) we fly to Phnom Penh on Saturday. But first: a good night’s rest. Welterusten!
